Growing up in a Nigerian-American family, there was one thing that always seemed constant.
Someone needed help.
Maybe it was school fees. Maybe rent. Maybe an unexpected medical bill. Maybe a small investment to keep a business afloat. And without hesitation, my mom and her siblings would send money home.
Not because they had to, but because that's what family does.
As I got older, I realized this wasn't unique to my family. Across the African diaspora, and countless immigrant communities around the world, millions of people quietly support loved ones back home every single day.
Collectively, we've invested billions of dollars into our families and communities. Yet this incredible generosity is often invisible.
It's fragmented across bank transfers, money transfer apps, phone calls, and personal requests. There's little transparency, limited coordination, and few ways to measure the lasting impact of what we've accomplished together.
That's why we created Abroad Impact Collective.
We believe the future of giving isn't replacing family, it's strengthening it.
